1987 Ford Mustang LX owned since 1998. The car has slightly narrowed 9″ Rear with Strange Axles, Full Spool and 4.10 gear. It has Hotchkis Upper and Lower Control arms, Aluminum Driveshaft, Tremec 3550 trans. Custom built Button Clutch(Full brass pads one side Brass/Felt on the other with no special pressure plate.) Custom made frame connectors, all welded. The motor now is and has been since 2002 a complete stock 5.0 bottom end with F303 Ford Motorsport Cam. I have Eldelbrock Heads and had Factory ported Uppper and Lower Intake, now have Edelbrock Victor 5.0 and EFI Spyder Intake to try. It has 70mm BBK Throttle body, Honed out to 70mm factory EGR spacer, 24 lb injectors, BBK adjustable fuel regulator, BBK liquid filled pressure gauge and 190lph fuel pump. BBK Cold air fender kit, BBK 1 7/8 Equal Length Shorty Headers, 2 1/2 pipe, H-pipe and 40 series 2 chamber Flowmasters with 3 inch turn downs. Other misc. is MSD 6AL, MSD wires, MSD Blaster Coil, Factory type Dist. It has Underdrive pulleys and still has power steering and all factory front end components. It has Fluid over Hydraulic Brake system off of older Lincoln. I have never had Nitrous or any other power adder on it and have gone a best of 8:12 in the 1/8 mile with a best of 1.69 60 ft.

Question by dirtrider1219: How can i increase horsepower in my 1987 mustang gt?
I have a 1987 mustang gt and i like it alot but i want to make it faster. My parents dont want it being loud so that cuts an exhaust system out of the question. I was thinking easy mods, no motor internals or anything cause i dont have the time any money to pull the engine apart. I was hoping i could get some links to some good websites or any tips or info you have would be great. thanks

Best answer:

Answer by It’s Kippah, Kippah the dawg
Improve your intake and exhaust.

Put in a K and N setup or something similiar.

As for the exhause, usually going 1/2″ over stock size is best; and you don’t have to have a loud muffler just because you put on new piping; the Kand N will be loud enough.

And I’m sure there are TONS of Mustang websites out there. Just do a Google search for Mustang fan sites.
